A Seed of Curiosity

A Seed of Curiosity
By Elece Hollis

There on the concrete park bench
A seed—round and dark like a black pearl
In a brown sea shell pod.
Pungent as a bead of spice—clove?
Where did you come from, Little Seed,
In your brown paper wrapper?
I hear a soft rattling, shimmery sound like
Dry pasta in a cardboard box.
The wind moves branches of a wispy willowy green tree
Across the courtyard and I spot more seed packets
Rustling in the breeze.
I find it amazing that
A tree waits inside this tiny sphere
Waits for seasons to change and come and go again
Rain to fall—sunshine to warm the soil
Tree seed—a Mini-Wonder!

Poems are made by fools like me,
But only God can make a tree.

  1. What a beautiful poem! I love how you look at the ordinary and see in it the extraordinary.
