Ice Water

In His favor is life:
weeping may endure for a night,
but joy comes in the morning.
Psalm 30:5

Morning sunlight thrums–hums through the air,
And collected snow, though stiff and frozen as ice,
Begins to glimmer and glisten with moisture,
Snow softening, slowly, surely, softening–melting
Melting into water to soak deep into the ground.
Next summer we will see the good of it.
Long harsh nights have been my lot at times;
Hurt and trauma have fallen like a layer of cold.
They have turned my heart almost to stone,
Cold, cold, hard stone, but then the morning with the
Light of grace shines down and my hurts and pains
Begin to soften, my anger and distress soften.
That hurt which might have destroyed me
Becomes forgiveness–good to my soul–something that
Nourishes and revives my spirit. That thrum–hum of
Morning grace sinks deep in me, soaks dry aching places,
Gives me strength for another day.

Blue Watering Can

The Lord has been mindful of us
Psalm 115:12

Snow falls and the blue can pours
No water on my flowers and tomatoes.
Snow falls and winter stays on;
But spring will come
Summer heat will rise again and
The blue watering can
Will be filled and emptied again
We know–because our Father
Is ever and always mindful of us.

Silhouette

Two are better than one.
Ecclesiastes 4:9

Let's sit and watch the snow fall, Darlin'
Isn't it the loveliest day?
Yes, Dear, cold, but beautiful.
It's you and me against the wide world, Darlin';
Sometimes I get scared, Dear.
Oh, but we're ready–like black on white.
Yeah! Let the snow fall, Darlin'!

How Happy They Are

How Happy They Are.
By Elece Hollis

Look at the flowers–for no reason.
It is unbelievable how happy flowers are.
~Osho~

Storing up sunlight
They wait ... holding color,
Like a heart holding onto hope.
Fragile, but with hidden strength
They wait until my heart
Begins to fail me
Then they are there
To give me the message
That every bit and scrap of
Creation assures me
That God, who loves beauty,
Holds my hand.

Violet's Song

How wonderful, O Lord, are the works of Your hands...
You have made us able to hear the music of the world....
Hebrew  prayer

Lemon yellow crowns–on white
Dresses with purple trim,
Like pure and bright children that dance
On a lively green stage.
If they could sing
We would not be able to bear
The sweetness of the violet's song.

Hyacinth

Seeds are quiet; soon enough they shout life
and surprise us all. ~c.e.hollis

Out of cold,
Comes warmth.
Out of dark,
Comes light.
Out of brown,
Come colors.
Out of sleep,
Comes life.
Out of yesterday,
Comes tomorrow.

Smile

"Smile. It's infectious."

"Be happy!"

"Eat dessert first."

Tulip

A glimpse of grace turns a mediocre day into a miraculous one.
c.e.hollis

I peek inside
 And remember an egg
Made of sugar with a small eye hole.
Close one eye–peep inside where
Amazing tiny things stand on a stage of white;
Tiny flowers, a church with a steeple,
A cross, an empty tomb with a stone rolled aside.
Mysteries these–like God's grace.
An oval more mysterious than
An egg cannot be found;
Unless it is a tulip–orange, red, or yellow,
Just beginning to open to light
To let me peer inside
To see its wonders–its shapes, its life,
Its promise, its mystery–
Like God's grace.

God Saw Good

 And God saw every thing that He had made,
 and behold, it was very good.
Genesis 1:31

God smiles when He makes a flower
Bud and bloom.
 He sings, maybe whistles His favorite tune,
He smiles.
His creative heart glows;
 He knows we will see and smile too and
That is one of His goals.

Boogie-Woogie Girls

Music is the laughter of heaven.
c.e. hollis

Climb with me up on the bench
Let's patter and plink and play
Stretch a foot to pump the pedals
What fun to sing and sway! Hey Hey!

Let's bang on Granny's piano
Have us some jolly good jive
Some blues - some jazz - some razzamatazz
Some jitterbug - ragtime live!

Jingle-jangle, ringle-rangle and fly
Whipping up a great new beat;
A rhythm – tingle-tangle – oh my!
I'm comin' outta my seat!

Come on! Let's go! Not slow!

Di-di-do, Di-di-dee-do! Fingers run
High notes – then low;
We're nearly done. Havin' us some fun!

Adventure

Friendship sings a true note, clear and sweet.
c.e. hollis

What a thrill
 For a little girl with a big strong friend
To go for a ride
Into adventure
 On a sunny warm day
On a huge and magnificent horse!

Dreams

Abundance is voices blended in close harmony.
~Candy Paull

Dreams

Soft in the light of somewhere nice
I dream and listen but give no voice;
Slow swirls of movement I feel like twirls
Of dancing playing once-little girls,
In white 'neath a shower of wedding rice

Slow tinkling-jingling music box chime
Like an almost forgotten nursery rhyme,
I hear it again, pause and turn my ear
To find the faint sound I think I hear —
A distant metronome ticking out time.

Murmurs of voices of unknown people
Lifting, falling, most unrecognizable
Shadows lengthening, sliding, dancing with light
Into the evening and fast falling night;
I dream inside late afternoon's satin bubble.

Soft in the come and go of light —
Soft in the light, I dream.
