In the woods
Mother Goose
Stays low and still
Guarding her clutch
Against coyotes, skunks, bobcats,
Snakes, raccoons, dogs,
And me.
Her feathered nest
High and dry
Warm, perfect, through
Rain and storm
Dark of night
God helps;
He painted her.
