Dripping from the petal tops,

Flower crowned with gold

New not old!

Springing from the stem,

Sparkling like a gem.

Skirt of purple twirled.

Joy to the world!

Gift Wrapped

Iris wrapped in soft filmy tissue paper

A gift,

A promise,

Only roses? and miss iris?

Mother Goose

Stays low and still

Guarding her clutch

Against coyotes, skunks, bobcats,

Snakes, raccoons, dogs, 

And me.

Her feathered nest

Warm, perfect, through

Rain and storm

God helps;

Hung to air on a barbed-wire clothesline

From the porch swing I watch night come

A drama of light and dark.

All drama needs music.

The music is a chorus of tree-frogs

Sweet chirping of birds

Songs of the mockingbird

Lullaby of cicadas

Music that comforts souls 

Music that softens the pains and strife of day.

Music to rest by.
