Roadside Flowers

A philosopher once asked, "Where is God?"
The Christian answered,
Let me first ask you, where is he not?"
John Arrowsmith

Along the roadside
A stream of flowers flutter and fly in the wind
Looking as if a flower shop's delivery truck
Has sprung a leak,
As if an artist dribbled every color
On the wayside grass
Too intent on painting to notice,
Spring showers splashed and the colors ran
Sun streamed down and the dropped blossoms
Multiplied;
So without any cooking at all
I feast on soul food.

Sentinels

We may ignore but never evade
 the presence of God.
The world is crowded with Him. He walks
everywhere incognito.
C.S. Lewis

Sentinels
by c.elecehollis

Like sentinels guarding over the garden
Bearded watchmen stand tall and silent,
Vigilant in the early afternoon sunlight,
Green swords ready at their sides.

Lily-Pops

The earth laughs in flowers.
Ralph Waldo Emerson

Like a fistful of orange lollipops,
A gift from the earth,
Satin lilies pop out of fat buds.
Wave in the spring breeze
So sweet you can smell sugar about them
Fanciful and fun enough
To make us all feel like kids
Seeing them open, fresh-made
By the hands of God.

Silent Beauty

All God's greatest works are silent...Nature rose
under the Almighty hand without clang or clamor,
or noises that distract and disturb.
 Andrew Martin Fairbairn

Silent as growing grass
Silent as the noonday sun
As moonlight falling over the meadow
Silent as the sky after the storm
Silent as an earnest prayer
Silent as color, as shadows, as dawn
Silent as a whisper hushed
Whites dance on air
Purse yellow lips in my direction
And smile—silent still.

Pink Laughing

Joy is the infallible sign of the presence of God.
Leon Henri Marie Bloy

Like cherry syrup poured into fluted glasses
Ruffled-lipped joy-filled tulips invite me to laugh with them
Glow pink like a early summer sunrise
Pink to mix with gold and green, swirl and splash
With blue sky for a perfectly happy day.

Singing Springing Song

Spring is nature's song and dance of delight.

Springing, flinging, winging,
Dancing, singing
Swaying, straying, this-a-waying
Reaching, preaching, us beseeching
To be joining the celebrating,
Demonstrating, all-the-waiting's past.
Moving, grooving,  greeting, fleeting;
Treating us to music sweetening,
Flaunting, flitting, like sunlit ribbons
Fluttering, flittering,
Twisty-tying happiness
To my heart.

Crayon Colors

Circumstances and situations do color life,
but you have been given the mind to choose
what the color shall be.
John Homer Miller

Crayon Colors
By Elece Hollis

Were these colors in my crayon box
With woolly white of grazing flocks?
I remember periwinkle blue,
Olive green and slate grey too.

Sandy beach and sycamore bark
Cinnamon twist, twilight black,
Bittersweet orange and yellow-green
With timberwolf gray sandwiched in between.

Chestnut, raw sienna, Indian red
With sea-foam floating overhead;
Just a touch of atomic tangerine
Cornflower blue and asparagus green.

I loved my box of sixty-fours
And when I take a walk outdoors
I find the colors still in mind
Crayons trained my heart to find.

Spring Parade

He is the poet of the world, with tender patience leading it
by vision of truth, beauty, and goodness.
Alfred North Whitehead

Come see what I found on the sunny chill day
Come see the flowers like flags!  Hooray! Hooray!
Red, purple, pink, yellow, white, wave and sway.
Spring is here and summer's on her way.
Come and see the tulips bloom today.

Somebody New

Every time I hear a newborn baby cry, or touch a leaf,
or see the sky, then I know why—I believe
Aaron Neville

Somebody New

Somebody new today,
Somebody precious,
Somebody no one but God knows well;
Somebody special,
Somebody treasured,
Somebody loved more than words can tell.

To Be Six

Children in a family are like flowers in a bouquet...
Marcelene Cox

To be six is to be older than you ever thought you'd be,
Seems the world is now your oyster
Wonderful to see!

To be six is to see life as others only wish to see;
Seems you note each passing wonder
Beautiful and free!

To be six is to be happy trolling through sweet days
Seems that all the world holds splendor
In a million ways!
